The practice of law isn’t just a profession for Annapolis attorney Stephen Krohn. It’s a family tradition. His mother, Charlotte Krohn headed to law school in her forties after raising her family. She established a private law practice and invited her son to join her when he was admitted to the Maryland bar in 1978. Stephen’s sister, Carolyn, is a bankruptcy attorney in Annapolis. Two of his uncles were also lawyers. His youngest daughter, a Harvard graduate, has graduated from University of Pennsylvania Law School and recently sat for the Maryland bar exam. Born in the former Anne Arundel General Hospital on Franklin Street in Annapolis, Stephen has practiced law in Maryland for 33 years. He has kept up with the evolving practice of family law, and, as an early advocate of alternate dispute resolution (ADR), became one of the first attorneys to earn a Certificate in Medication from Harvard Law School in 1994. Realizing he could best serve his clients by developing expertise in one specific area of law, Stephen has limited his practice to family law, handling issues of separation, divorce, custody, prenuptial agreements and property settlements. New clients are regularly referred to Stephen by his colleagues as well as former clients in Central Maryland and the Upper Shore. During the time he’s not in Court, Stephen has mediated and arbitrated more than 600 family law cases. He has argued approximately 40 cases before the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, five of which are pored over by attorneys and judges for insight that might apply to other cases. Stephen is a frequent instructor on the topic of family law, and appears regularly as a guest speaker and forum panelist at events throughout the region.
